Finger Painting with the Family
What you'll need: Finger paints- you can purchase these from your local hobby store or most grocery stores Paper- butcher paper works great or you can also purchase paper made especially for finger painting Bowls to put the finger paint in Towels- be sure to use older towels that you don't mind getting dirty A bowl full of water- you'll need this to rinse your fingers when changing colors during your painting Let's get started! I recommend that you do this activity outside because it has the potential to get pretty messy. Take your finger paint and place each color in it's own separate bowl. Lay out the paper that you will be using on a table or on the ground. One word of caution...make sure that you weigh down the corners of the paper. When my son and I were painting, the wind blew and caused the paper to fly up and I caught it with my face. Needless to say, I had blue paint all over me.
Now, dip your finger into the desired color paint and start painting! Use your imagination and remember not to get caught up with creating the perfect picture. This isn't supposed to be museum quality art but rather a fun time to enjoy spending with your children. You're going to get messy but that's part of the fun! Let the creativity flow through your fingers and have a great time. Can't think of what to paint? Dip your child's feet into the finger paint and use their feet to create clouds on your paper. You can also use your fingers to create a rainbow by dipping each finger on your hand in a different color of paint and then dragging your hand across the page.
You will be amazed at how creative your children are. Let them guide you and remember to have fun!
